The Castle Walls

by Mark Rawlins   May 17, 2018

I wrote this following reports that police in Windsor are moving the belongings of homeless people off the streets in preparation for the forthcoming royal wedding.

In the shadow of the castle,
Policeman said,
'move your belongings
and your cardboard bed ....
as for sleeping bags
we lay flags instead,
in the shadow of the castle walls.'

In the shadow of the castle,
the young man said,
'If I hide my face,
will he spare my head?
Will he or won't he
leave us for dead
in the shadow of the castle walls?'

In the shadow of the castle,
the old king said,
'Take physic, pomp
when you get wed.'
For the circus is coming
but there is no bread,
in the shadow of the castle walls.

It's sad how helpless people who have only the
little space has been chased to hold something
grand. A situation seen in many countries

What is unfair is that there will likely be loads of people camping out for at least twenty four hours on the streets before the wedding to ensure they get good views and they wont be moved on so why should they be allowed to move on homeless people?

If there are established homeless people living on the streets the officials should know about them and if they don't want them there then they should at least offer them accommodation and a hot meal for the day and evenings leading up to it. That would be a nice royal gesture but I guess not likely to happen.

Ps. I will be boycotting television for the day until such times as a small rounded object touches hallowed turf. ;-)

    Well said that man.

I shall not be watching said matrimonial engagement. In truth the sheer expenditure makes my blood boil.

Yeah have you're big wedding. Who pays for the police and military operations that surround it. WE DO!

All the homeless and poor in that city!

How much could the cost of that wedding fund?

More than most can even dream of.

    Respect
