Brother

by Matt Carroll   Aug 2, 2019

"Life's been rough, and things are tough
My self-worth is at an all-time low
I can't seem to win, I'm naught but sin
Perhaps it's simply time to just let go"

I hear you, brother, like many others
We've all been down that dreary road
But please take heed, this I decreed
Alone, you don't have to bear the load

"I'm so displaced, my heart defaced
Can't seem to make the changes needed
Reality distorted, my efforts all but thwarted
I am weary, conquered, and defeated"

So be the change, brother, rearrange
Tread the not-so-often traveled path
Embrace your resurrection, embark in a new direction
Away from all this self-inflicted wrath

"I don't know where to start, the mending of my heart
Or in whose footsteps I should follow
Could there really, truly be, a brand new me?
Such a jagged pill to gulp and swallow"

I promise you, brother, from one to another
Just take a deep breath and close your eyes
Have a momentary sit, I promise this is it
The helping hand, heart, and ears that heard your cries

-YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

A wonderfully powerful message with great rhyming - More and more people are finding themselves disconnected and alone so this really is a positive piece. I really hope this gets a nomination. I would but have run out :( Milly x
